Fun little tool. 𧑠A generator for "Pixel Art" "9-patch" #CSS Borders. Design of this is provoking a little nostalgia of old Windows and Apple programs. When you're done, you can copy the css. https://maxbittker.github.io/broider/

So @vozercozer ALSO styles the "advanced" #Mastodon view and this looks pretty good. ππ» https://github.com/SlippingGitty/Espresso-Mastodon If you're a TweetDeck user this might appeal to you. Does to me. Go #CSS!

So after looking into importing Github β into https://davidbisset.social. Github has an API that makes the importing (fairly) easy! The bad news: the API doesn't document when I starred the repo. Oh well, at least moving forward my script can monitor the API and timestamp. 2.9k starred repos is a lot. Not sure if it's…

#ChatGPT starts getting really popular in November. AFTER NOT EVEN TWO MONTHS businesses announcing this week they are all in and can't use it to replace humans fast enough. Isn't this how some tech horror movies start?

Friend: "Every time I use the restroom at my office I think about my #Github history and I don't know why." Me: π€

So after Mastodon, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn – thinking of the next social world that I can suck into davidbisset.social. ππ» Github might be next. I'm not sharing my public commits, but what I β might be interesting. Here's a #Python script that exports (your) GitHub stars to a CSV file: https://github.com/JeffCarpenter/export-stars This #Vue script exports…

https://cal.com/ is an #opensource (and self-hostable) "#Calendly Alternative". I've already setup a test account on their site and it's pretty nice so far. https://github.com/calcom/cal.com #TypeScript #JavaScript

@ivory is getting a lot of attention right now (and rightfully so) but we are still living in an age similar to early days of #Twitter – apps and browser extensions doing a whole bunch of cool things with #Mastodon. I'm keeping and still using the following iOS apps: "Ice Cubes" (it's open source) from…

Trying out a βquoteβ feature from the newly installed Roam 3.0.0. Might be the best method of doing it currently #Mastodon (i'll find out after I post this). From @assaf https://mas.to/users/assaf/statuses/109745225512552289

Client: βOver the years I've been blindly throwing plugins and third-party scripts into my codebase.β Me: π€

What i'm liking about @ivory vs. advanced view with #Mastodon is that Ivory shows me the actual reply count to a post ("5") vs the web view "1+". Helpful for me to know how many reply a post is getting.

Like late 90s Internet history? Then this is gold. #Mozilla celebrates 25th anniversary of mozilla.org and putting out a notice making itβs web browser #opensource. An interesting tour down memory lane here (EARLY stuff older than the Wayback Machine) from @jwz. https://www.jwz.org/blog/2023/01/mozilla-orgs-25th-anniversary/ (Site might be temp down maybe because it's been a little viral recently?)

https://davidbisset.social update: success… I almost think i've gone as far as I can go with archiving tweets. Thanks to Puppeteer and Browsershot I automatically take a screenshot of my tweet in case Twitter blocks embeds or goes down completely. My own personal Wayback Machine, kinda (don't know yet how to visit each tweet page automatically…

@mastodeck looks like an almost drop-in replacement for Tweetdeck (but of course for #Mastodon). A little rough around the edges but this a def. shot in replacing the "advanced view" i'm using now in my browser for Mastodon. https://mastodeck.com/

I know there isn't a "good" NATIVE #Mastodon app for the Mac, but is there at least a recommendation of something to post to M without the delay and studdering of the web client? π€

i don't think i've ever yearned to listen to @gruber Talk Show more than this one, reminiscing w/ @chockenberry about early days of iPhone and #Twitter. Almost 3 hours long! https://daringfireball.net/thetalkshow/2023/01/19/ep-367

In reply to @davidbisset. Granted this $0.02 comes with very little time in M compared with most. But i've seen this play out in a number of different communities and evidence, like in the case with Toot, is apparent. BTW: I'm 50/50 on quote posts or I don't care that much.
-
My $0.02 on MOST feature requests I've seen on #Mastodon: allow a (smart as possible) way to make it "official" or a "setting" because devs and apps will find a way (which might not be the best way or respecting something that should be respected). On the other hand, how apps tackle "unofficial" features might…

Dear #Mastodon: That thread should also be a blog post. Share the url of at the start of the thread. 𧡠I don't care where the post lives. I don't care if it's "a good thread trust me". If it was that good you should take the extra few minutes to make it a single…

With WordCamp Asia coming up I would like to do some old fashion quick live posting but the web interface of #Mastodon can't keep up based on previous experience. Tweetdeck on #Twitter can. A shame. Maybe an interface that posts to both. There used to be a live blog plugin for #WordPress (then in theory…

Reading more on search with #Mastodon. After reading about #Searchtodon and @anildash lastest piece I then read this one from @ben on his $0.02 and efforts to build a bot to detect scrapers. I'm still forming my opinions (maybe more on that later) but Ben covers a few corners of the discussion I haven't seen…

I used #WordPress to upload my #Mastodon posts (and my https://davidbisset.social site syncs with it fine). I cache 50k posts and works great. If you aren't a WP user (and want to go static 100%) then @richard@richard.social post might be of interest. I know #WordPress has a site for it's 20th anniversary already. https://wp20.wordpress.net When I did the only site for the 19th anniversary: https://wp19.day I bought the next year domain: https://wp20.day I will GUESS what the WP folks will do so I don't want to step on any toes – but any ideas what to do…

"Big Picture Goals 2023" for #WordPress from the project's Executive Director @josephahaden. My gut feelings so far range to "it's worth a try!' and 'better than nothing' on this but read @anildash proposal for a #Fediverse search (with a focus on "consent") yourself as I think it's worth a read: https://anildash.com/2023/01/16/a-fediverse-search/ #Mastosearch #Searchtodon

I'm a advanced column layout user of #Mastodon but I do like and @elk "feels" a bit better if you want to stick with one column. Doesn't help with some of my cons of Mastodon but thinking this and @ivory might help really help those migrating from the T site to help more at home.…

As one who dipped their toes into #Mastodon in 2018 and got "into the pool" more in Oct I seem to see an increase in endless arguments and claims just difference of opinion as "hostile" (correct and not). Longer time M users telling newer people to effectively "get off their lawn". Same happens in #opensource.…

TIL about #Searchtodon experiment & (with it's closing) @janl excellent retrospective on it: https://searchtodon.social/Adventures-in-Mastoland.html I guess count me in regarding (1) ability to search my timeline for things I missed (I already save/sync my personal #Mastodon posts on https://davidbisset.social) and (2) Jan's last points – #Fediverse will only get bigger and for it's protection and…
