Amazing that Home Depot or Lowes don't do Apple Pay at the registers (Home Depot even does Paypal online).

Yeah @film_girl is exactly right. #Mastodon doesn't have to get "more followers than Twitter or be more popular than Bluesky to win". I don't think #Mastodon is going away and there are multiple winners. But as @ben points out: "Can a developer take your protocol, without permission or pushback, and build something meaningful in under…

#Bluesky rolls out very very basic moderation tools today. But i'm actually more interested in some recent information shared about making your own algorithms. Unpopular opinion on #Mastodon but I think algorithms CAN BE USEFUL THINGS. Especially if you can create your *own* (which I do to various degrees on social), but not when they…

wpbriefs.com is an AI powered #WordPress podcast. Worth a mention just for the logo alone. I'm thinking about starting a rival called wpboxers.

Another day another "#fediverse and/or #mastodon will win" post in apparent reaction to… something. https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/yes-the-fediverse-will-win/ First off: I agree think some of arguments are sound. Fedi isn't going away. Donation models work. But face it – Fedi will never attract majority. Nor do they want/should to. Currently as alt. go #bluesky (still in diapers) gets…

#Mastodon is till the place I enjoy the most and get the most interaction. But with #bluesky I have to admit it's interesting (pros and cons) to be a part of a social network that is only 60k+. In some ways it seems almost a perfect size.

"There is so much to learn." For me as a developer what side of this bus i'm on depends on my mood, others around me, my work environment, my drugs, my diet, the last episode of Star Trek Picard I watched, and a random throw of the dice.

What people on #Mastodon and #Bluesky say about each other (part 1). It's a past time to talk about other social networks on the social network you're on. 😄

In reply to @davidbisset. This is a meme, in real life I would say code quality from CodePilot is actually VERY good all things considered. Just don't copy and add things blindly without testing.

This #AI generated podcast recapping Hacker News is impressive and uncanny. I wouldn't be surprised if this results in more "daily few minutes of news" #podcasts / shows. https://hackernewsrecap.buzzsprout.com/2170103/12788441-may-4th-2023-google-s-ai-vulnerability-open-source-threat-is-real?t=0

Found out that next school year students in my area will be required to use CLEAR bookbags and backpacks year round. On a positive note I'm trying to see if someone makes a late 90’s iMac G3 themed backpack for my kids.

"#Mastodon Has Already Won" https://d-s.sh/2023/mastodon-has-already-won/ I agree with this here. Judge this community on merits like these vs what other social platforms (some of which are getting some attention, some of which aren't even at a 1.0 version) are doing.

Mastodon is currently the best social platform currently out there IMO. ActivityPub is gaining steam with more accounts every week. If you think "Enthusiasm for ActivityPub is being sucked out of the room" because of another social platform that isn't even built and open to the public… well it reads at best a knee-jerk reaction…

Interesting. Someone didn't like it when documentation uses the term "simply" and "it's easy" so much they made a site out of it: https://justsimply.dev/ It's actually a GOOD site too, and if you write docs or marketing it might be worth a look.

Apparently Angry #Mastodon has pivoted from complaining about #Twitter to putting down #BlueSky which hasn't even really gotten started. Let's focus on what's great and can be improved here in this community. </$0.02>

It's funny how over on Twitter there's a positive vibe about #Bluesky but almost completely opposite from what comments I've seen so far on #Mastodon. Not sure if people realize Bluesky is barely a private beta with almost no features (It's BuddyPress UI folks) or it's a kind of attitude that Mastodon has gotten noticed…

"Notes to Self on #Mastodon" I was (still am to a degree) on a similar vibe to @jimniels on a few of Mastodon's weaknesses. Mainly that you lose content if you need to move from an instance (and that's assuming a good move – you in theory can lose more). https://blog.jim-nielsen.com/2023/notes-to-self-on-mastodon/
